ARCTIC SURVIVAL AND SAFETY TRAINING
Northern norway
DUTCHEXPLORERS organises all year round and every month an excellent training for people that like to learn how to be on their own in wild (Arctic) environments. The training takes place around our base north of the Arctic Circle in Norway. We have the perfect playground to learn and have new experiences. There are plenty of remote areas like mountains, sea & coastal areas, islands, forests, glaciers, valleys, and places full of streams and waterfalls. To join this 9-days training, you need to have some basic experience in the outdoors. Read further and find out if this is something for you.
HOW WE DESIGNED THIS TRAINING
STEP 1. LEARN SKILLS To have skills is vital to be safe and comfortable in remote and wild areas. During this training, you can learn a lot of skills. And you have to practise a lot to get to a level that you can do those things automatically. You will join workshops where we teach you how to read maps, use tools, make a fire, catch fish, and much more.
STEP 2. GET KNOWLEDGE Your brain is an important toolbox, and we are going to fill it up with essential tools. We are talking about knowledge (things that you need to know). You will join classes where you learn something about: how to use weather forecasts, prepare for a trip, what equipment to use, how to deal with medical situations, how to find edible food and much more.
STEP 3. UNDERSTAND PSYCHOLOGY Remote wilderness areas combined with weather can create a delicate mix with potential dangers. But that is not the only thing to worry about. You also have to deal with the things that are happening in your head. So we will teach you a lot about group pressure, decision making when you are on your own, how to deal with fear, how to reactivate your instinct and more. We also will put you in situations where you can learn more about yourself!
STEP 4. GET EXPERIENCE Nature is an excellent school for learning and getting more experience. You can learn a lot from exploring a variety of wilderness areas. We take you to the mountains, open valleys, snow-covered areas (during winter), islands, and dense forests during this training. You go into the wild alone or with a teammate.
JOIN ADD-ONS (OPTIONAL) After the survival and safety training, you can choose to make an additional 3-days trip in which you can get more experience. There is one add-on trip where you can practise more to be on your own in a location of your own choice (for instance, a forest or an island). You can also join an add-on trip where we put you on a physical challenge to train your body. If you want to have a fantastic time in nature, you can join a long-distance in wild and beautiful surroundings.
