Every year we organize adventurous outdoor youth camps in northern Norway. This summer camp is intended for boys and girls from all over the world with an age between 16 and 19 years old. Your son or daughter gets an adventurous time in the Norwegian outdoors in which they can learn a lot, have some challenges and can slow down and relax. They can learn outdoor and basic survival skills, cook on a fire and learn to fish and do some use bushcraft techniques to make useful tools or built shelters. Our guides and instructors takes your son or daughter on hikes in the mountains, on boats and kayaks at sea and into the beautiful nature of Norway. There is a lot to do, like making a basecamp with tents, collecting wood and do some outdoor cooking. These camps (8, 10 or 14 days) are organized in June, July and August. We aim at a international group of young people from different countries. Elk jaar organiseren we avontuurlijke jeugdkampen in het noorden van Noorwegen. Dit zomerkamp is bedoeld voor jongens en meisjes tussen de 16 en 19 jaar. Je zoon of dochter beleeft een avontuurlijke tijd in het Noorse buitenleven waarin ze veel kunnen leren, uitdagingen hebben en kunnen ontspannen. Ze kunnen outdoor en basic survival vaardigheden leren zoals koken op een vuur, leren vissen en bushcraft technieken om handige gereedschappen te maken of schuilplaatsen te bouwen. Hvert år arrangerer vi eventyr ungdomsleirer i Nord-Norge. Denne sommerleiren er beregnet på gutter og jenter mellom 16 og 19 år. Din sønn eller datter vil ha en eventyrlig stund i det norske utendørs hvor de kan lære mye, ha utfordringer og slappe av. De kan lære outdoor og basic survival ferdigheter som å lage mat på bålet, fiske og bushcraft-teknikker for å lage nyttige verktøy eller bygge ly. Vi tar sønnen eller datteren din med på turer i fjellet og på båter og havkajakker. I løpet av leiren er det mye å gjøre, for eksempel å lage en basecamp med telt, samle ved og lage mat ute. Jedes Jahr organisieren wir Abenteuer-Jugendcamps im Norden Norwegens. Dieses Sommercamp richtet sich an Jungen und Mädchen zwischen 16 und 19 Jahren. Ihr Sohn oder Ihre Tochter werden eine abenteuerliche Zeit im norwegischen Freien verbringen, wo sie viel lernen, Herausforderungen haben und sich entspannen können. Sie können Outdoor- und Basic Survivalfähigkeiten wie Kochen am Feuer, Angeln und Bushcraft-Techniken erlernen, um nützliche Werkzeuge herzustellen oder Schutzräume zu bauen. CONNECTING TO NATURE

Nature is far from daily life for many young men and women. But many young people are highly interested because of climate change and pollution. We aim to reconnect young people to nature, slow down, do some digital detox and show why protecting the environment is so important.

LEARN ESSENTIAL SKILLS

The new generations will travel more and more in the wild outdoors. Fathers, mothers, and grandparents provided knowledge and taught skills in the old days. Things have changed, and our team of guides like to fill the gap. We want to teach a variety of subjects. How to cook, how to navigate, how to make a fire...

GET TO KNOW YOURSELF

Nature is a mirror, and being in wild surroundings can be tricky. Everyone has his own comfort zone, ambitions and fears. We like to guide young people and help them to get to know themselves in secure surroundings. Being in nature is great fun, sometimes confronting and occasionally takes a lot of sweat. Our team is there to guide your kid.

The costs of joining this camp are:
925 EUR (8 days)

INCLUDED
Included are all transports during the trip, guiding, use of outdoor equipment (kayaks, fishing rods, wetsuits, etc), activities, tents and all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).

NOT INCLUDED / SHARED COSTS
Flights and transfers to the starting / ending point are not included. In-between snacks and drinks are not included. There is a nearby shop where we go once in a while.

LOCATION AND ARRIVAL INFORMATION

LOCATION
This camp starts near our base, in a small fishing village named Helnessund, in the municipality of Steigen (Nordland) in the north of Norway. It's located 50 km north of Bodø and can be reached by ferry daily. This fast ferry (hurtigbåt in Norwegian) takes you approximately one hour from Bodø to Helnessund. Check the timetable for departures in the FAQ.

AIRPORT
To fly to Bodø you usually take a connecting flight from Oslo. There are multiple flights daily between Oslo and Bodø with different airlines such as SAS, NORWEGIAN, WIDEROE or FLYR.

TRAVELING BY TRAIN IN NORWAY
If you want that your kid travels economically friendly we can recommend you a 17 hours train ride from Oslo to Bodø. Check vy.no for more information about traveling by train.

OUR ADVISE: TAKE YOUR TIME
We would like to recommend you that your kid arrive one day before the start of this trip and take some time to acclimatize themselves. We can give you suggestions for (budget) hostels or hotels in Bodø if you like.​ An overnight stay in Bodø after the trip has ended is also a good idea. In case of bad weather ferries can be cancelled or delayed.

WHO CAN JOIN THIS CAMP?

This camp is suitable for young people between 16 and 19 years old, who would like to experience a great outdoor adventure. Your kid does not  need any special experiences in tenting or other outdoor activities/skills as we are happy to teach.

We will stay overnight in expedition tents, tipi-tents and self-made shelters most of the time. 

GEAR AND PREPARATIONS

PACKING LIST
This trip is organized north of the Arctic Circle. So your kid needs warm clothing, good shoes and outdoor gear like sleeping bags and more. You can find a detailed packing list here. On this packing list you can find all the gear and equipment you will need and other practical information.

RENT GEAR FROM US
In case your kid does not have all the gear and you do not want to buy, then you can rent equipment from us, for example backpacks, sleeping mattresses and more.

THE CAMP: HOW DOES IT WORK?

​This  youth outdoor camp is organized in a remote and very scenic area in northern Norway named Steigen. Your son or daughter will be surrounded by awesome fjords, wild forests, remote beaches, uninhabited islands and steep mountains. After arrival in Norway (Bodø airport), your kid takes the 1-hour ferry to our base in Steigen, where we welcome you. Close to our base, in wild surroundings, we build our first camp and your kid assist us. In the days ahead we will do all kind of outdoor activities and your son or daughter can learn a lot. Everyday we make a plan and choose out of the activities listed below. The actual weather is an important factor in what we can do on a day. During the time that your son or daughter stays with us we will make camps on different places. Your kid can learn a lot like how to make a fire, how to cook, how to fish, how to use a compass and much more. One day they will be in the mountains, the other day at sea or on an island. Our staff will teach your kid all kind of outdoor, survival, safety and bushcraft skills. At the end of the trip the ferry takes your kid back to Bodø.

WHAT LANGUAGES ARE SPOKEN?

The leading language is English. Our staff and guides are from different countries and it is common that if needed that we also (can) communicate in other languages including Norwegian, Dutch, French, German and more. Contact us if you have more questions about this topic.

CAN MY KID BE PICKED UP FROM THE AIRPORT?

Yes, that is possible and no problem. There are some extra costs for that service because one of our staff members has to travel from our base to the airport and back.

CAN I DISCUSS SOME MATTERS ABOUT MY KID WITH YOU?

Yes, if you have specific goals, worries or if you think there are specific things we need to know, then we can schedule a call before or after your booking. We are familiar to deal with these kind of things.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES THAT WE PLAN TO DO

Here is an overview of the things we plan to do. Remember we are depending on the weather.

HIKING IN THE VALLEYS

Hiking is the way to discover the nature of northern Norway. We choose from hikes along sandy beaches, wild valleys or forests with waterfalls and small rivers that we can cross. There are easy walks and longer hikes.

KAYAKING THE FJORDS

The archipelago near our base is an amazing place to kayak. There are many islands and islets. Also with some wind and waves there is a sheltered place to find.  We teach you the basics of kayaking and some safety techniques.

WOOD CARVING FUN

Making things out of wood with knifes and other tools is great fun. And a lot of people are surprised by that. Learn how to make your own spoon, cup, tent pegs or hiking pole. We teach you the basics to give you a good start.

WILDLIFE OBSERVING

Encounters with wildlife is an essential part of experiencing the Arctic. Of course we need to be lucky, but there are good chances to spot moose, sea-eagles, all kind of birds, otters, dolphins, foxes and hare. We take you to places where the chances are good.

MOUNTAIN HIKING

Mountains are tempting and we like to take you up to get this awesome views of the fjords and the ocean. Some of the trails lead to mountain cabins where we can take a rest. There are easy and more tougher trips. We teach you how to have a good and safe trip in the mountains.

ARCTIC FLOATING

One of our favorite outdoor activities is Arctic floating in between the islands . We use survival suits in which you stay warm and dry, It is a very relaxing experience to float in crystal clear water with great views over the fjords. Lets have fun at sea!

DEEP-SEA FISHING

We love to catch our own food instead of going to the supermarket. You can learn how to catch fish at sea (like cod and pollock) and how to do the filleting. If you do not like to go at sea we find a nice spot to fish from the shore.

EXPLORE THE FJORDS

We will use our boats to explore the Steigen archipelago. Cruising between the islands is a superb experience. The water is crystal clear and the views over the fjord are stunning and we can go ashore on some of the islands.

OVERNIGHT STAY ON ISLANDS

The coastline around our base is full of islands and most of them are uninhabited. Some have great beaches and nice spots to pitch a tent. We take you there with tents and other equipment for an adventurous stay overnight.

BASICS OF OUTDOOR COOKING

​Cooking on a fire is great fun, but you need to know the basics. We teach you and provide recipes. Learn how to make bread on a fire. During your stay with you will prepare your own meals together with your teammates and our staff.

ARCTIC SNORKELING

The sea in Norway is usually crystal clear and there is a lot to see. You can go snorkeling and discover the underwater world. A lot of different fishes, plants, crabs, anemones and shells are waiting for you. Afterwards you can relax on a sandy beach.

ESSENTIAL SURVIVAL SKILLS 

During your stay with us you can learn a lot of outdoor skills. We like to teach basic scouting skills, like understanding maps, making a fire, using a compass, how to stay safe, finding food in nature and how to work with a knife. Learn the essentials of survival.

ARCTIC TREASURE HUNT

Do a hike with a mission in a for you unknown territory. We organize adventurous hikes where you have to find routes, certain points or treasures. There are hunts on different levels of difficulty possible.

BEACH CLEAN-UP /DUGNAD

A very popular activity is a beach cleanup and it is important. It is not only about big pieces of rubbish, but also smaller parts of plastic. There are also other so  called dugnad projects available in which we can help nature or support the locals.

FOOD FROM NATURE

The summer has a lot of food to offer. In July and August you can find a lot of berries. We take you to places where you can find them. No problem to take some home. We teach you how to find the right ones. But also in the sea you can find food.
