When we arrive, we will explore the canyon and do hikes on the high plateau and try to reach the Swedish border. This pilot expedition is an excellent opportunity for those who have the mindset of an explorer and are not faint-hearted. Superb scenery guaranteed! Costs are 1825 Euro (12 days),
Pilot expeditions are our most adventurous expeditions. Based on research, stories of locals or just new ideas we organise expeditions that we do for the first or second time. Those expeditions are extreme adventurous, have some obstacles and the final goal can be hard to reach. |

The rough plan of the Hellmobotn canyon expedition
How the idea for this expedition started... We like maps and we spent hours studying all kind of details. So we know Norway is huge, but can you imagine that at one point it is only 6 kilometres wide? And it has the largest canyon of the North part of Europe, So, you probably won't be surprised that we plan a great expedition to this spot. Helmmobotn, thats the name of the place, The location is quite remote and it is only accessible by boat. It will take us a couple of days to get there with our expedition vessel Xplore1. And we need decent weather to cross some scenic fjords. |
You can learn a lot of seamen skills If travelling by boat is new for you, we are happy to teach you a lot about navigation, weather forecasts, boat manoeuvres, safety procedures and those things with ropes and knots. We have several tricks to handle seasickness if that might worry you. |
EXPLORING THE CANYON OF HELMMOBOTN
The long Hellmofjorden with its impressive mountains brings us to our destination, the largest canyon of Europe. Here we will make our tipi tent basecamp and start our explorations. We change our sailing suits for snow shoes and hiking boots and explore the canyon and the higher plateau that leads to the Swedish border. We also try to reach one of the mountain cabins in the area. On our way to Hellmobotn we will make stops in small villages with breathtaking surroundings. We will stay overnight in tents, cook on a fire, hang out with some locals and catch our own fish.

This is a pilot expedition. So this means that it is one of the first times that we organise this expedition. So it is full of new discoveries and surprises, but it also means that you need to have a flexible mindset and you must be able to handle difficulties and impossibilities. Thats part of the expedition style of exploring. |
