RE-FRAMING THE ARCTIC WITH BARBARA VAN ITTERSUM
VESTERÅLEN NORTHERN NORWAY (9 days)
The Dutch Photographer Barbara van Ittersum takes you with her to explore the islands of the Vesterålen with her camera and lenses. A fantastic trip through Arctic landscapes with lights and colours that are unique. Barbara points her camera to three subjects: the raw winter landscapes of the north, the colours of the polar night/northern lights and most extraordinary, the people that live an extremely rough life on the border of land and sea. They call these people <Kystfolk> in Norway, which means people from the coast. For many centuries the people have been known for their own rules, wisdom and language. Escape from the usual stuff and take your camera with you to the north. There is a lot to do and learn. Workshops, editing, learning about the Norwegian culture, and the taste of traditional Norwegian food in the evening. Our nature guides show you the unique beauty of the Vesterålen islands, which are absolute off-the-beaten-track. We stay, cook, and tell stories in cosy fishermen's cottages with views over the fjords in the evenings. Costs are 1550 EUR per person (9 days).
WORKSHOPS AND WHAT WE WANT TO TEACH YOU
Here are some of the topics that are covered during your stay with us. Some are done <on the go> and others include a presentation in our accommodation before we take you to a site. Both beginners and more experienced photographers can learn a lot or be inspired. There is enough space and time to do your own thing. In the evenings we can review footage and exchange ideas. In this trip we focus on portraits, arctic landscapes and light (including northern lights photography).

THE ROUGH PLAN OF THIS TRIP
The Vesterålen is wild, remote, non-touristic and rough, and we look forward to guiding you and exploring magnificent scenery, meet the locals and teach you a lot to boost your photography skills. A well-balanced mix of being outdoors during the day, joining photography workshops, edit pictures and time to relax, listen to stories, cook Norwegian meals and hunt the northern lights in the evenings. Take a look at the rough plan below.
ARRIVAL AT EVENES AIRPORT AND ROAD TRIP After you arrive at Evenes Airport in northern Norway, your adventure starts, and you will do a road trip (buses, 3 hours) to our base in the Vesterålen. If you are travelling with a group other transfer arrangements might be possible. WELCOME AND BRIEFING IN THE VESTERÅLEN After arriving at your accommodation, it is time to unpack your luggage and cameras, and we will brief you about the plans for the coming days. After that, it is time to discover the near surroundings and have some views over the fjord. We will prepare a tasty meal for you after your arrival. PHOTOGRAPHY TRIPS AND WORKSHOPS During you stay with us we travel by car to different locations where we hike (or snowshoe) to scenic spots to shoot pictures (landscapes but also places where we can meet (kystfolk, coastal people that live on the border of land and sea, like fishermen but also other people). The days are short in this period, and we will be out as soon there is daylight. So, we plan outdoor photography in the hours with daylight and do part of the workshops and (indoor) portrait photography in the hours without light. At the end of each day we will return to our cottage. I the evenings there is enough time to edit pictures and review your footage. In the hours without daylight we check frequently if any northern lights are visible. BYE-BYE EVENT At the end of your stay with us, we will organize a small surprise celebration for you. Of course, we cannot tell you now what that will be. But we are sure that you are going to enjoy this! ROAD TRIP TO EVENES AIRPORT At the end of the trip, you travel back to EVENES Airport. |
