Three national parks in Arctic Norway expedition (FEBRUARY)
In this second edition of this new expedition, we take you to three national parks in the north of Norway just above the Arctic Circle. We plan to explore three vast nature areas to hike and snowshoe through stunning winter landscapes. This is an adventurous trip and a great choice if you like to discover remote areas and experience the Arctic silence. In the Rago National Park, we follow a wild river upstream and enjoy the icy surroundings. In the Sjunkhatten National Park, we wander through a valley with numerous lakes surrounded by mountains. In the Saltfjellet National Park, we explore some trails through snow-covered areas with our snowshoes. We might use our kayaks to paddle a fjord. During this expedition, we drive small roads through stunning landscapes. We stay overnight in tipi-tents (with a wood-stove), expedition tents, cottages and basic cabins. Costs are 1375 Euro (9 days).
WHY CHOOSE THIS ONE...?
This trip is for people with an adventurous mindset that like to explore Norwegian nature in more remote areas. During this expedition, we will explore trails and places that also are new for us. So pure adventure is included. We make plans daily, based on weather forecasts, our research and stories of locals. We stay overnight in a mix of cabins, cottages, wood-stove heated tipi-tents and expedition tents. You need to be open-minded and be able to handle fast-changing plans. This trip includes some scenic road-trips of a couple of hours. You can join this trip if you are basic fit and the distances we hike are flexible and are depending on terrain, weather and what we like.

FIRST-TIME NORWAY VISITORS
Great trip for first-time Norway visitors with all the different landscapes that Norway has to offer: jagged mountains, impressive fjords, hundreds of islands and islets and remote valleys.
We are in the northern light season, so that is great. We only need a sky without clouds and some sun activity to observe the aurora borealis.
Remember we are in the Arctic and here the weather is the boss. So, there is not a day-to-day itinarary, only short term plans are realistic. We make our descisions on what is possible and when to do it based on weather forecast and conditions. Of course we love to hear your ideas and wishes. And we do our best to make it happen. A bit flexible mindset is a good thing to have here in northern Norway.
gear and preparations
This trip is organized north of the Arctic Circle. So, you need warm clothing, good shoes and outdoor gear like sleeping bags and more. You receive a detailed packing list and advice after you made your booking. The packing list tells you about the things you need to have and also gives you a lot of practical information.
RENT FROM US
In case you do not have all the gear and you do not want to buy, then you can rent equipment from us, like backpacks, sleeping mattresses, kayak-suits, snowshoes and more.
THE ROUGH PLAN OF THIS EXPEDITION
We pick you up by car in Bodø, discuss the rough plan for the coming days and choose our first destination (one of the parks). Our decision will be based on weather forecasts and local temperatures. The road trips during this expedition are very scenic and include drives through mountainous areas. It will take more or less 2 hours to reach one of the parks. We will stay around two days on one spot to minimize time lost to logistics and set up or break down of camps. In this time of year, days are short, and we plan our activities during the period when there is light. If snowshoeing or hiking with sleds is new to you, we will teach you the basics. In the evenings there is time to relax, cook good food, have time for yourself, sit around a fire and try to observe the northern lights. During daytime, we keep our eyes open to spot wildlife like moose, reindeer, foxes and sea-eagles. If we have the the right conditions, we might launch our kayaks for some paddling in a nearby fjord. At the end of the trip, we bring you back to Bodø.

TEMPERATURES, CLIMATE AND WEATHER
At the coast, temperatures will be between minus five and a few degrees Celcius above zero usually. A few kilometres more inland temperatures can drop down to minus 5 (lowest around minus 15). We expect quite some snow in this period. Roads can be slippery when temperatures rise above zero (we drive with studded tires). In Norway, you can expect fast-changing weathers patterns.
