FAMILY OUTDOOR TRAVELS

Parent-child polar circle adventure

CONNECT WITH NATURE AND YOUR CHILD IN NORWAY

PARENT & CHILD POLAR CIRCLE ADVENTURE
Christmas edition

Taking your son or daughter with you into nature is a great way to get a better connection with your child. Most parents often do not take the time for a more extended period one-on-one with their kid. And we think that is a missed chance. You can learn a lot from yourself and the other. And it is also very cool to give your kid skills for being safe and comfortable in the outdoors. So that's why we organise these outdoor adventures now for several years. We take you and your son/daughter to wild places in the north of Norway. The trip is loaded with activities in the outdoors, but there is also a lot of time to relax or to do your own thing. We stay overnight in tents, tipi-tents with wood-stove, cabins and other cosy accommodation. We look forward to take you and your son or daughter to the Arctic Wilderness of Steigen in the north of Norway.

850 EUR per person (5 days)
1050 EUR per person (7 days)
1275 EUR per person (9 days)

LOCATION AND ARRIVAL INFORMATION
LOCATION
This trip starts near our base, in a small fishing village named Helnessund, in the municipality of Steigen (Nordland) in the north of Norway. It's located 50 km north of Bodø and can be reached by ferry daily. This fast ferry (hurtigbåt in Norwegian) takes you approximately one hour from Bodø to Helnessund. Check the timetable for departures in the FAQ.

AIRPORT
To fly to Bodø you usually take a connecting flight from Oslo. There are multiple flights daily between Oslo and Bodø with different airlines such as SAS, NORWEGIAN, WIDEROE or WIZZ Air.

TRAVELING BY TRAIN IN NORWAY
If you want to travel economically friendly we can recommend you a 17 hours train ride from Oslo to Bodø. Check vy.no for more information about traveling by train.

OUR ADVISE: TAKE YOUR TIME
We would like to recommend you that your children arrive one day before the start of this trip and take some time to acclimatize themselves. We can give you suggestions for (budget) hostels or hotels in Bodø if you like. An overnight stay in Bodø after the trip has ended is also a good idea. In case of bad weather ferries can be cancelled or delayed.
LEVEL AND SKILLS
Everybody who is a good basic shape can join this trip. All outdoor activities are not very demanding, but you will be a bit tired at the end of the day. Note that we are in the Arctic and weather changes quickly. So, in case we are surprised by non-forecasted weather all outdoor activities can become a bit more tough or could be a bit out of your comfort zone. We understand that a child of 12 and a child of 18 have different capabilities. So don't worry about that. In case of bad weather we will choose for staying overnight in cabins instead of tents if possible.
ACCOMMODATION
ACCOMMODATION
We will stay overnight in expedition tents, tipi tents with a wood stove and (mountain) cabins. In case of bad weather or bad weather forecasts (storm or heavy rain) we always choose for cottages or cabins. We cook our own meals (inside or outside on a bonfire) and like to work with local products like dried fish and other ingredients.
GROUP SIZE
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
Max 8 participants (bigger groups on request).

REMARKS
The age of your son or daughter is more or less between 12 and 21 years.

THE ROUGH SKETCH OF THIS adventure

This outdoor adventure takes place in the municipality of Steigen (1000 km2). Steigen is located in the north of Norway just above the Arctic Circle. After your arrival in Bodo, you travel with a fast ferry to the municipality of Steigen where we pick you up. After your arrival at our base in Steigen, we will make together a plan for the coming days. Based on the weather forecasts we plan outdoor activities and decide how and where we stay overnight. You and your kid will be involved in building up camps, fire making and cooking for instance. We will put a lot of elements of our survival and safety courses in this week, so you and your son or daughter can learn a lot of essential outdoor skills. We will visit different areas, and you will be amazed about what the Norwegian nature has to offer. We will go out hiking and snowshoeing through remote valleys with waterfalls and great freshwater lakes. We will go out on the sea to do some sea fishing and visit some uninhabited islands to camp. We will try to reach higher areas in the mountains to get great views of the fjords. At the end of the week, the fast ferry will take you back to Bodø, or you choose for a 250 km drive by car through the mountains (optional and recommended).

what is it like to travel with your child

To travel with your son/daughter outside the traditional family settings can offer a lot and we know that from experience. Of course, it is quality time, but the most important is that it is a one-on-one experience in nature. During this outdoor adventure, we will go hiking in remote areas, camp with tents in the wild and prepare food with basic means. There will be at times a bit challenging situations for both parent and child. So you get to know each other from a different perspective. You and your child can learn a lot. Things that in the old days were taught by the parents or grandparents. Exploring with others guests is fantastic, and you can exchange experiences. During this trip, you can also camp alone together with your kid on wild spot if you like to have that experience.
